I am considering discovering out what sort of Wiccan I’m and the place I belong. 1. I’ve stepped out of Wicca but I would recommend rebuilding an altar and becoming one with nature. A Wiccan altar at its very base is supposed to have a god candle, goddess candle, and a representation of the four elements. Try casting a spell or saying a prayer. Meditating outdoors is also a good way to reconnect with nature. r/Wicca is probably the better place for this question. There are plenty of solitaries there who can probably help.

  2. I also think of myself as an empath, it’s really connected me to magic and working with others. I think the most important thing you can do to get started again is as the comment above me said, go connect with nature and build yourself an alter using lots of things you find there. The alter can change as you get back into it, but take that most important step and connect with Mother Earth 💚 best luck on your journey. You’re always more than welcome to shoot me a message!

  3. I’d recommend reading this if you want to get into wicca.

I have nothing against Cunningham, but I’ve found Buckland’s books to be more informative. He explains things very well and it’s less of “You HAVE to do it this way” than a lot of writers out there.

As a personal answer to altars and names, I’ve never felt that an altar has to be setup any particular way. I change the layout of mine depending on what I’m doing and the time of year, the only things that remain constant are my incense dish, atheme, spell book, and three dishes for salt, water, and libations.

As far as a witch name, I’ve never found a purpose for it. I used one in a previous coven I belonged to and found that even though everyone would call me by it I’d completely forget they were talking to me until they got my attention with my real name.

  4. Scott Cummingham er I mean Cunningham has some lovely reference books but I find his flavor of practice a bit too fetished and sexualized for my tastes. However I suggest looking everywhere and reading everything. Only you can define your practice and only you can answer your inner questions. Having a coven is nice and a mentor is grand but when it comes down to the brass tacks almost all your work will be done by yourself, for yourself or for someone in a way only you understand. If I say place a thick stone ax on your altar Pabbi will like it. That doesnt apply to you most likely. My Pabbi might not be yours. Just like Mammi needs a pipe to smoke. Does your Mammi smoke? Maybe not. A pine to me is an abrasive force like a briarwood, do you feel that way about pine trees? Perhaps. So I cannot make your altar for you. I can only say what I work with and how I connect with objects and how they effect my own life and practice. So in short; To define your practice, you must first define yourself and no one can teach you that. It’s something you learn by living. So get out into the trees, shake your soul awake and do some basic energy work. Everything else will fall into place.
